Scholarship & Awards Banquet

The 20th Annual Scholarship & Awards Banquet

On Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Sheraton Mesa Hotel Wrigleyville West in Mesa, Arizona the Arizona Chapter of the National Latino Peace Officers Association held it 20th Annual Scholarship & Awards Banquet, which was a great success.

Five high school seniors were awarded scholarships from the AZNLPOA and the Arizona Field Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration.  The scholarship recipients are                              for the                                     Scholarship,                                     for the                           Scholarship,  These scholarships were sponsored by DEA and presented to the recipients by Special Agent Shannon Sheer.  

The                                             Scholarship  went to                                sponsored by the NLPOA and presented to the recipient by Dr. Ed's daughter and granddaughter Alicia Valenzuela and Mandy Valenzuela. 

The                                  Scholarship went to                                  sponsored by the NLPOA and presented to the recipient by Chandler police sergeant Daniel Mejia.

The                                                   Scholarship went to                                  sponsored by the NLPOA and presented to the recipient by Ignacio Conchos daughter Yolanda Fernandez.

Eleven police officers from police agencies as Phoenix P.D., Tempe P.D., Chandler P.D., and the Arizona Department of Public Safety were recognized for Community Service, Lifesaving, and Valor.


Community Service Award - Chandler Police Department Daniel Mejia.

Lifesaving Award - Officer Don Tarazon Phoenix Police Department, Officer Dave Salgado Phoenix Police Department, State Trooper Richard Gear Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Valor - Phoenix Police Department Lieutenant Seth Jahnke Sergeant Michael Penn, Sergeant Darin Lund, Officer Danny Olmos, and Officer Andrew Williams.  Tempe Police Department Officer Michelle Salmon and Officer Vanessa Vela.

Also recognized at the scholarship & awards banquet was Chief Frank Balkcom of the Page Police Department.  Chief Balkcom was recognized by the National Latino Peace Officers Association for Lifetime Membership in appreciation of his commitment and lifetime of service and devotionto to the National Latino Peace Officers Association.  Chief Balkcom is a past Maricopa County Chapter President, Arizona State President, and National Western Regional Vice President.
